Is it just me, or does this newspaper just not get it?

"If you're hoping to impress the ladies, we'd suggest avoiding these vehicles at all cost."

From the use of the editorial "we" I take it that this isn't just one rogue reporter, but the consensus of the newspaper as a whole.  Have none of these people actually met a lady?

My advise, for what it's worth.  Get yourself a car, awesome in its own way, and then let her drive it.

The Wheels section is pretty much all manufactured "news". There's very little that actually changes. Mostly this time of year they just lecture you on the importance of snow tires.

[I have never owned snow tires in my life.]

[As a further aside, except for a sad two years when I owned a Dodge Neon, I have always used inner-tubes mounted on steel wheels. For the past ten years the tires have been bias-ply. Alloy rims and radial tires are a passing fad, I tell you!]

As far as I can tell, most of what they mean by "lady repellant" is simply that the car in question isn't terribly practical for ferrying a passenger around. I'm pretty sure though, that the vast majority of those cars aren't their owner's only car (or if they are, the owner isn't terribly car-dependent).

Not that I'd be a good source of information on cars and dating; I'm still quite happily car-free (and married too).

Can you say slow news day? :P

I can't remember ever being impressed by a guy's car. Or even, like, interested in it. (I had a serious crush once on a guy who drove an ancient Chevette purchased for $300. Insofar as the car influenced my opinion of him at all, it was along the lines of "Hey, good deal!" In my defence, I was in high school at the time.) I am often mildly irritated at being required to clamber, leap, or pole-vault into the passenger seat of a vehicle apparently built for persons over twelve feet high, but on the other hand the drivers of said vehicles are offering me a lift out of the kindness of their hearts, so I'm hardly going to complain about it.

Quite frankly I think if you're depending on your vehicle to attract a mate (of any gender), you're probably doing it wrong ...
