This has to be the strangest thing I've seen today:

http://www.sloughfeg.com/

A metal band that released a Traveller RPG concept album. The track listing:
1. The Spinward Marches
2. High Passage/Low Passage
3. Asteroid Belts
4. Professor's Theme
5. Vargr Moon
6. Vargr Theme/Confrontation (Genetic Prophesy)
7. Baltech's Lament
8. Gene-ocide
9. Curse Of Humaniti
10. The Final Gambit
11. The Spinward Marches (Return)
12. Addendum Galactus

Bizzare. The tragedy of it all is that they have some MP3s for free download, and I'm not particulary impressed. It's strange that this world that has been such a large part of my imagination for much of my life is a similarly inspirational factor for people very different from me.

Trav fan?

Odd little coincidence. Spent a few years deeply into Traveller back when I was in law school. Got active on the TML, went nuts with the gear design system, the whole works. Google "Famille Spofulam"; they're my creation. And grimmwire was part of our group, and being a very talented illustrator, wound up doing a bunch of drawings for GURPS: Traveller. There's an illo in the G:T Scouts book of our characters.

What a great game.

Of course I remember Famille Spofulam :). I was on the TML through the '90s. The VDS design of Santa's sleigh with after-burning reindeer was mine. I also have a design credit on the T4 The Emperor's Vehicles. Sadly that was still not enough incentive for me to buy the book.

I still have all of my Traveller books, of course. About three linear feet of bookshelf. I havn't played in years, though I harbour secret hopes of running one or two one-off games this summer.

Livejournal is a bizarre place. We have a primary link through gridlore and Traveller, and a secondary link through terheyt, who I know from the Army of Dorkness, and who I suspect you know from the Montreal scene.

Wow. The net is a small place, I guess. I think I remember that sleigh, too.

Stumbling across gridlore was a bit of a shocker; I recognized the name, backtracked, and "holy bleep, it IS Doug!".

Yup, met terheyt at a brunch organized by mousme. Never heard of the AoD, though.

The AoD is the rabid fanbase of John Kovalic, and his comic strip Dork Tower. We make an annual pilgrimage to Illinois for Dorkstock, and are generally silly people. That's where I first met terheyt.

I ran into grimwire at Ad Astra in Toronto last month. Look. Squint. "Do I know that face from a user icon?" How the net can be this small, and yet run out of 4 billion IP addresses, I cannot comprehend.
