11:32 pm - Lights in the sky
I saw the ISS for the first time today. I was up on a rooftop in Las Vegas around 8:30. The sky was bright with the lights of the city -- Ursa Major was just visible but I couldn't find Polaris. Against this glow the spacecraft was very distinct and brighter than any star. It came over from the north-west, vanishing as it hit the umbra to the south-east. I still need to check the elements to make sure it was ISS, but I can't think of anything else in LEO that should be that bright.
Serendipity is a powerful force.
